Occupational Licensing

New Licensees

Obtaining your landscape irrigator’s (LI), irrigation technician’s (IT) or irrigation inspector’s (II) license is completed through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Occupational Licensing Division. In order to obtain one of these licenses, one must complete each of the following:

  • Complete the required training,
  • Complete the TCEQ application,
  • Submit a criminal history attestation
  • Pay the fee
  • Pass the applicable exam

License Renewals

Occupational licenses for landscape irrigators (LI), irrigation technicians (IT), and irrigation inspectors (II) are valid for three years. In order to renew one of these licenses, one must complete each of the following:

  • Complete the required hours of continuing education units (CEUs)
    • Landscape Irrigators (LI) – 24 hours
    • Irrigation Technicians (IT) – 16 hours
    • Irrigation Inspectors (II)- 24 hours
  • Submit a renewal application
  • Submit a criminal history attestation
  • Pay the renewal fee
