For the last few years, Carrollton has offered to residential citizens an irrigation inspection paid for by the City as a way to reduce water usage. Citizens are allowed one inspection every three years and this is typically announced each spring on the City’s website and through inserts in the water bills. The goal of the program is to reduce water irrigation consumption. All irrigation inspections must be conducted in person by an irrigator licensed by the State of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and we are looking for companies who may be interested in this program if the City issues a bid. We have budgeted approximately $35,000 for this year, and we already have one vendor on-board for the program. Inspections may begin in April and end in August, unless the budgeted funds are exhausted before then.
One of the main caveats for this program is that the company who performs the inspection is not allowed to make any of the necessary repairs for at least 30 days, and the citizen should be encouraged to find irrigation repair companies on their own if needed. The obvious reason for this is that we do not want the perception that the inspections are a method to extract money from citizens. Your company would be allowed to do the work, but only after 30 days from the date of inspection.
If you or your company employee licensed irrigators who would be interested in performing the inspections, please let me know the contact information. Feel free to give me a call and I can explain the details. Thanks!
